Introduction:
“Animal farm” is a cacotopian novel brought into black and white by George Orwell_voice of political commentary_ in 1944.Animal farm is an allegorical, symbolic and satirical book which explores themes of authoritarianism, oppressions and feudalism and it leads to Russian revolution, 1917. when Validymar Lenin along with his political friends, infused the ideology of communism and raised voice against capitalist countries in Russia.
Summary:
The novel is about a Manor farm_later on named as Animal farm_led by an idealist Major pig who introduced animals to the concept of truth that they are being plundered and oppressed by their human owner ,Mr.Jones, who would always keep animals on starvation despite heavy works. soon after the enthusiastic speeches of Major pig, they rebelled against their owner, Mr.jones and expelled him from farm. Similarly, major pig promulgated the policy of Animalism before his death.
Moreover, after rebellion, the issue which ignited the fire was leadership that who will be the leader of Animal farm, Napoleon or Snowball. Pigs were considered to be the ideal animals among others. However, conspiracies between Napoleon and his spoke person ,Squealer banished Snowball from farm. In this way, Napoleon announced himself as president of Animal farm. Nevertheless,in the leadership of Napolean, the seven commandments which were made under the policy of Animalism were being altered by Squealer, and the animals who would see the dreams of their freedom and liberation from oppressor like Mr.Jones were being more suppressed under Napoleon regime. On the same token, Napolean ravaged the commandments as he established trade relations with human, drinking Alcohol, sleeping on beds, wearing clothes, killing of animals mean all crimes were adopted by him and his friends. Further, the most known and significant point:”All animals are equal” was replaced as: “All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.”
Doubtlessly, Napolean, intoxicated by power, forgetting each policy and had adopted the way of human. Eventually, it was impossible for the animals to distinguish between Pigs and human.
Themes:
The novella Animal farm explores themes: power and corruption, exploitation, subterfage of language and propaganda, inequality, allegory of Russian revolution, loss of individual rights, etc.
Power and corruption:
This theme accurately explores how power can corrupt a person that one tortures and suppresses one’s own ally and companion. As in book pigs who had strived for freedom, equality and justice became cruel and barbarous after getting power and dominance.
Exploitation:
It is commonly observed that poor and simple people are always being bottled up by ruling elites. Less previlaged people are always commanded to work and convert their sweat into blood for feudalists. As this book illustrates how Napolean_Joseph Stalin_compelled Russian working elites to work like a donkey for him not for themselves.
Subterfuge of language and propaganda:
This theme delves how a language can manipulate people and their perception and how it controls and decieves others. As pigs, led by Napoleon, used propagandas and changed the perception and mindset of animals in the farm even they used slogans to justify sweet lies of their power and actions.similarly, the alteration of commandments led animals against the policy of Animalism.
Loss of individual rights:
the story reveals that none of the animals got their fundamental rights. As their dream of freedom and liberty was not visualized in a true sense and it felt short of expectations. Similarly, it testifies that they lost the right of speech, right of rations and right of freedom under tolitarianism.
Critical Analysis:
As the book, Animal farm, is written on the allegory of Russian Revolution, when joseph stalin after death of Valadymar Lenin, got dominance and power over others, showed his real face. Similarly, he forced people to work but still people leaved from hand to mouth and thousands of people died due to starvation. Same is the case with the land of pure that the powerful write the rules but it is is working class who always bears the consequences. Moreover, before independence, they strived for freedom and fought for justice but now they, themselves are incarcerating their own fellows and allies and killing them. As pigs abolished the commandments in the similar way leaders never throw an eye over their laws and constitution. PM,CM, judiciary and president all are corrupt and extending golden hand to those who are thirsty for their blood and wealth.
Conclusion:
The novel”Animal farm” by George Orwell advocates for the political and social rights of the prescuted who are being oppressed by prescutors. It criticizes tolitarianism and authoritarianism. It is the reflection of Russian Revolution when people were prescuted and forced to work without rations and their basic amenities and needs.
